Opt-in links, QR posters and STOP

Ask customers' permission to send offers with a link or a printed QR poster, and understand what happens when someone sends STOP.

What it does

Before you send offers to a customer, they should agree to get them. An opt-in link does this for you:

  1. The customer scans your QR poster (or taps your link).
  2. WhatsApp opens with a message ready. They just tap send.
  3. The bot asks if they'd like offers, with Yes, send offers and No thanks buttons.
  4. If they tap Yes, they're marked opted in and can get your broadcasts and follow-ups.

When to use it

Glow Beauty Salon

Priya puts an A6 table card at her billing counter: "Scan for festive offers on WhatsApp". While waiting to pay, clients scan it and tap Yes. By Diwali she has 300 opted-in clients to send her offer to.

Steps

  1. Create a link

Open Opt-in links and tap Create your first link (or + New link). Give it a Name only you see, like "Counter poster". Edit the Greeting if you like. It's the message ready in the customer's WhatsApp. Check What the customer sees, then tap Create link.

  2. Print the poster

On the link, tap Poster. Choose the Size (A4 poster or A6 table card), the Poster language (English, हिंदी or मराठी), a headline, an optional offer line and the Name on poster. Tap 🖨️ Print / Save as PDF, or Download QR (PNG) to use the QR in your own design.

  3. Share the link online

Tap Copy link and paste it in your Instagram bio, Google Business profile or website.

  4. See who opted in

Each link shows Scans, Opted in, Declined and the Opt-in rate. In Customers, people who joined through a link show Opted in via and the link's name.

You can also ask for permission right after a booking, without any poster.

  1. Open Settings and turn on Ask customers for offers consent after booking.
  2. When a booking is confirmed, the bot asks that customer once if they'd like to get your offers, with Yes and No buttons.
  3. If they tap Yes, they're opted in. In Customers their badge reads Opted in after booking.

Under the switch, Asked · Yes · No shows how many customers were asked and how they answered. The same counts appear on the Customers page in the Asked after booking card.

What happens when a customer sends STOP

This works for every business, even without opt-in links.

  • If a customer sends STOP or UNSUBSCRIBE, the bot stays quiet with them for 24 hours.
  • They also get no broadcasts or follow-ups until they send START or tap Yes on an opt-in link. This part doesn't end after 24 hours.
  • Their row in Customers shows Opted out (sent STOP).
  • If they send START, the bot replies again. You can change the words the bot sends for STOP and START in Settings → Customer keyword replies.

Example

storefrontSharma Travels

Vikram prints an A4 poster in Marathi for his office wall and also adds the link to his Google profile. In a month, 140 people scan it and 110 tap Yes. One customer later sends STOP. Vikram's next Holi offer broadcast skips them automatically.

Good to know

  • Your WhatsApp number must be connected before you can print a poster or copy a link.
  • Each link has a fixed code like JOIN-… so printed posters keep working even if you edit the greeting. In the greeting, {{businessName}} becomes your business name.
  • Switch a link off with its switch to stop it working. Turn on Show switched-off links to see old ones.
  • Only the business owner can create or edit links.
